Mobile app and BLE beacon network turning each visitor's smartphone into a contextual curator inside the international exhibition “The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue”.
For the touring exhibition based on Qatar's FBQ Museum collection, Boring Soft created an invisible digital layer capable of operating inside protected palaces and cultural venues. The platform detected a visitor's proximity to each object and automatically activated stories and multimedia content, without QR codes, wiring or interventions on the heritage site. The solution accompanied the exhibition from Malta's Grand Master's Palace to UNESCO and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.
The experience had to enrich objects of immense historical value inside venues with strict heritage restrictions. No wiring, wall alterations or rooms filled with signage and QR codes were possible. At the same time, objects as diverse as Chinese Qurans, Viennese mosque lamps and Qajar Persian carpets needed multiple layers of context without interrupting each visitor's natural journey.
We deployed a native app connected to a wireless Bluetooth Low Energy beacon network. A micro-proximity algorithm recognized visitor movement and automatically activated historical data and multimedia when approaching each object. The modular architecture could be quickly reconfigured in every city, maintaining precision and consistency without invasive infrastructure. For this portfolio presentation, we also modernized the original News screen with a museum-inspired editorial direction: highly legible typography, an ivory, burgundy and gold palette, clear navigation and photography at center stage.
Visual evolution of the original 2018 screen: it preserves the real articles and dates while presenting them with contemporary editorial hierarchy, accessible navigation and a Gulf-heritage-inspired palette. The full app used the same foundation to activate proximity-based content throughout the exhibition.
